White House Study Shows Abuse Of Presciption Drugs

A new White House study has provided more compelling statistics on the US consumption of prescription drugs. The study states that from 1998 to 2008, there has been a 400 percent increase in the abuse of prescription drugs for a range of reasons. The alarming number of individuals using prescription drugs as a 'quick fix' or pain relievers for illnesses that are either mental and physical issues, continues to increase.

Although there are more prescription drugs monitoring programs being widely used in 33 states, to control and oversee the consumption of prescription drugs, according to the National Alliance for Model State Drug Laws, the limited budget in many states have stopped the programs.

The study also details the factors and recommendations that needs to be addressed on a state to state basis in order to minimize the abuse of prescription drugs nation wide.
