
A new campaign has began in the United States encouraging families and households to dispose of unused prescription drugs that may be lying in the medicine cabinet for several years without use. This campaign began to bring awareness of the dangers with keeping unused prescription drugs that are no longer needs in the household. Some of the issues include potential overdose, addiction to prescription drugs and misuse of prescription drugs. The organized campaign also ensures that the drugs are disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly way.
Assisted by the state and local police departments to run the campaign held in Arizona was quite successful. With over 6200 pounds of prescription drugs and over the counter medicine were collected and disposed of during the weekend.
